Small and Mighty

When you consider the fact that our town has a population of just around 2,400, the fact that our summers are filled with events the caliber of what you might find in a larger town speaks to the hard-working nature of St. Maries. It makes what we do pack even more of a punch. Nearly every weekend offers some sort of family-friendly activity, and nearly every activity is put together by volunteers. Even better – nearly every event offers something […]

Fourth Annual Run Attracts Out-of-Staters

With more than half of the currently registered runners coming from out of state, next weekend’s St. Joe River Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K has the potential to be the most traveled-to event in its history. “We have people coming from Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, New York, Alaska and even Hawaii,” marathon committee member Devon Barta said. “It is exciting to see people participating from so far away.” The race has been a popular draw since its inception in 2011 […]

(Getting) Ready to Run

Plans are well underway for the fourth annual St. Joe River Marathon, and race organizers are certain this race will top them all. Ok, so that claim is an over-the-top ridiculous one to make – not to mention completely unnecessary, considering that the St. Joe River Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K has proven itself a consistent race with unbelievably scenic courses for both the casual runner and disciplined athlete. Registration is open for the June 7th and 8th events. The […]

The fastest boat, Unnatural Disaster, completed the 25-miles stretch between St. Maries and Calder in 14 minutes. It will take even […]

St. Joe River Marathon to help those in need

It takes great people to make a great community, and St. Maries has plenty. The most recent group to step up in an effort to improve the quality of life for our community is the organizers of the St. Joe River Marathon. For the past two years the group has showcased St. Maries as a great community through its annual race. Recently the committee applied for non-profit, charitable status in order to provide financial assistance to local families with members […]
