Memorial Day services will be take place this weekend across Benewah County and Worley Events will begin this Thursday in St. Maries when fifth graders from Heyburn will assist the legion in laying flags at the graves of local veterans. Christmas kicks off tomorrow

An old tradition returns and a new one begins. The annual Christmas in St. Maries celebration is Saturday, Dec. 2. The kickoff to the holiday season, sponsored by the St. Maries Chamber of Commerce, welcomes back an old tradition and adds a new activity as part of the day’s events. Harrison Oktoberfest marks 10 years

An event that has grown every year since its inception will mark a decade. The 10th Annual Harrison Oktoberfest is next month. It will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at Harrison City Park. Fourteen vie for St. Maries title this Saturday

Fourteen high school girls will compete for the title of Distinguished Young Women 2018 this weekend. The program starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Heyburn Elementary gymnasium. Tickets are $7 per person. Doors open at 9 p.m. This year’s theme is Destination Unknown and will center on travel. A house fire that left a family of six homeless, a horseback riding injury that required a woman to undergo two major back surgeries and a bone marrow transplant for a local three-year-old have the community of St. Maries working together to help raise money to help cover costs for the three families affected by the hardships. County Fair Kicks Off Thursday

Church backs back-to-school

The St. Maries Church of the Nazarene will help families send their children back to school. For 16 years, the church has organized an annual clothing giveaway to help area families with school-age children. In addition to used clothing for all ages, the church also gives away new backpacks, school supplies and winter coats.
