County Fair Kicks Off Thursday

Steers, hogs, chickens, rabbits, sheep and other critters will make an appearance at the Benewah County Fair this week. The fair starts tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 18, and continues through Sunday, Aug. 21. Rotary Family Fun Day Returns

Area families are invited to enjoy two days of fun-filled activities at the annual Family Fun Day. The event, organized by the St. Maries Rotary Club, is Saturday and Sunday in conjunction with the Benewah County Fair. “We are really hoping for a lot of participation,” Carol Humphrey said. “We want to grow this event every year. Horsemen head UpRiver

Area equine competitors can participate in three horse events in one weekend. The UpRiver Saddle Club will sponsor its annual horse show, trail classic and O-Mok-See Aug. 1-2 at the Santa arena. Horse tack and cash prizes are up for grabs. This will be the 54th year for the show and O-Mok-See and the 14th for the trail classic competition. The 6th Annual Summer Sucks Grass Drags races are July 18 and 19. The event, hosted by the St. Joe Snow Riders, started as a fundraiser to benefit the family of a club member who died in an avalanche. Since that time the organization has run the races each year and donates proceeds to various community projects and programs. Hook a lure to your line and find a spot to fish. The Elks 7th Annual Fishing Derby, hosted by Felton’s Auto Sales, is Saturday, June 27.
