Veterans honored at annual dinner

Veterans will be honored this weekend at the annual Benewah County Veterans’ Day Dinner. The event starts at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at the St. Maries Elks Lodge. As always, there is no cost for veterans and their families who attend. The Elks Lodge and American Legion Post 25 take turns sponsoring the dinner each year. Bill Barden joins flight honoring veterans

A local man’s military service will be honored with a trip to Washington, D.C. Oct. 23. Bill Barden, a veteran of the Vietnam War, was selected for a seat on an Honor Flight. Medal Highway Dedication Saturday

A state highway will be dedicated in St. Maries Saturday in recognition of veterans who’ve received America’s highest military honor. Four years ago State 3 was designated as North Idaho’s Medal of Honor Highway. But there was never a dedication to mark the occasion. A local group of veterans from the American Legion Lloyd G. Area Ceremonies Honor Veterans

Fallen soldiers will be remembered this weekend. Memorial Day services have been scheduled in St. Maries and on the west side of the county. Services in St. Maries will be conducted by American Legion Post 25. The Coeur d’Alene Tribal Warriors Society Post 5 and American Legion Post 69 will conduct services in Plummer, DeSmet and Worley. Every November, a day is set aside for Americans to remember and honor those who have fought and died for this country. Students in fifth through eighth grade expressed what Veterans Day means to them as their focus for their Americanism Essay contest, which is sponsored annually by the Elks. Memorial dedication Saturday

A year’s worth of work will be unveiled at the Benewah County Veterans’ Memorial Saturday, Oct. 19. The dedication ceremony starts at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Ample parking will be available on the south side of the memorial. Traffic flow will be directed around the perimeter of the cemetery, Jack Botts said. Honoring our Veterans

The St. Maries American Legion Post plans to dedicate the Benewah County Veterans’ Memorial in just a few weeks. But if you’ve been following this story, you know that this memorial has been months – and tens of thousands of contributed dollars – in the making.
